API

Using the local API, you can integrate NRGkick into your smart home system, as well as program individual automations.

What is a local API?

API means Application Programming Interface and is a kind of “pool” of commands. These commands can go between two or more devices to request or send certain information. For each query, there are defined answers. No information can be transmitted without the predefined commands. These commands and answers are summarized in extensive documentation, which can be found here. NRGkick’s local API is available in 2 protocols: – JSON API: This protocol has the advantage that information can be read in more easily. – Modbus API: Consists of addresses. Instead of sending aggregated information via endpoints, individual details are sent via addresses. The advantage of this is that individual values can be retrieved.

What is the local API for?

Unlike the NRGkick app, you can use the local API to retrieve even more precise information and also set up various automations. For example, when you use the app, you have to actively change your charging current. Using an automation, this is automatically done for you when a certain event occurs.
