House load management / peak load management

NRGkick is able to include the total power consumption of the home when charging the electric car, preventing power outages. By connecting to a communicating smart meter, NRGkick automatically regulates the charging current and prevents overcharging of the home connection. A maximum limit (in amps) can be set in the NRGkick app under the House Load Management item.

Peak load avoidance “Peak Shaving”

In addition, NRGkick offers a so-called Peak Shaving function (peak power limitation). This allows short-lived, high power consumption (the “peaks”) to be avoided or smoothed out by reducing the load. For charging electric vehicles, this means concretely:

• The payload is automatically reduced when the total power consumption (e.g. within a certain time, building or premises) reaches a set limit.
• This limitation helps to reduce the maximum power consumption (kW) lower, reducing expensive peak loads – which affect energy bills – are avoided.
• The system monitors the total energy consumption and controls the charging process intelligently control, for example by delaying, limiting or time-shifting charging.
