Peak Shaving: smart charge management with NRGkick

The NRGkick keeps an eye on your home’s total power consumption while charging your electric car, preventing power outages. Via a connection with a smart meter, the NRGkick automatically regulates the charging current and prevents your home connection from becoming overloaded. In the NRGkick app, you simply set a maximum limit (in amps) under Home Load Management.

Peak load avoidance: “Peak Shaving”

In addition to home load management, the NRGkick also offers a Peak Shaving function (peak power limiting). This avoids or flattens brief, high power consumption spikes — the “peaks” — by automatically reducing the load. For charging electric vehicles, this specifically means:

  • Charging power is automatically reduced when total power consumption (for example within a certain time, building or business premises) reaches a set limit
  • This limitation helps reduce maximum power consumption (kW), avoiding expensive peak loads — which affect your energy bill
  • The system monitors total energy consumption and intelligently controls the charging process, for example by delaying, limiting or shifting the charging in time

Home load management takes your home’s total power consumption into account and adjusts your NRGkick’s charging current so your home connection is never overloaded — you set a maximum amp limit yourself via the app. Peak Shaving goes a step further: it automatically reduces the charging power as soon as total consumption (for example at business level) approaches a set limit, specifically to avoid expensive peak loads on your energy bill.

In the NRGkick app, go to the Home Load Management section, where you simply set a maximum limit in amps based on your home connection. Once this limit is set, the NRGkick automatically monitors total consumption and intelligently adjusts the charging process — by delaying, limiting or shifting the charging in time — without you having to intervene yourself.
